Atlas — Travel Planning App

Challenge

A traveler's most critical moment is when there is no internet: abroad, in the mountains, in airplane mode. The heart of the app — maps and routes — had to work flawlessly offline, and map rendering had to stay smooth on mid-range devices.

Solution

React Native + Mapbox with vector-based offline city packs (~18 MB average), a drag-and-drop route planner with automatic time/distance estimates, conflict-resolving two-way sync and native modules for map rendering (+60% frame rate on low-end devices).

Results

120,000 registered travelers in 18 months, 4.7 rating; 43% of users download at least one offline city pack — the most loved feature was the hardest one we built.
